California

When people think about California, they usually don't think about the robust farming landscape the state has to offer. There are a whopping 69,000 active farms in California, spanning across 24 million acres, with over 10 million of those acres being permanent pasture and rangeland. Additionally, there are over 680,000 beef cows, 1.7 million diary cows, 86,000 goats, and 575,000 lambs in the state. In 2022, California was ranked the 4th largest cattle producer in the nation, with the total head count (cows & calves) exceeding 5.2 million cattle.

As California becomes more urbanized and industrialized, smaller farms could be forced out of this prime agricultural landscape. Help keep the local economy booming by sourcing your food from locally owned, responsible farms.
