Additionally, there are over 680,000 beef cows, 1.7 million diary cows, 86,000 goats, and 575,000 lambs in the state. In 2022, California was ranked the 4th largest cattle producer in the nation, with the total head count (cows & calves) exceeding 5.2 million cattle.
