Georgia

Georgia is in a very unique situation as it relates to agriculture. Farms in Georgia contribute $70 billion to the state's economy and farms have seen a near 50% increase in average market value since 2007. However, the number of farms in this state have decreased by 12% and of the 7,360 female-owned farms that once operated in the state, only 6,400 remain, a reduction of 15%. Approximately 500,000 acres have been taken out of agricultural production since 2007.

Statistics like this usually spell disaster for locally owned and privately owned farms and there is a good chance that many, if not most, of the farms that met their demise, did so at the mercy of farms run by mega-corporations and elite agricultural industries. The only way to reclaim our power and keep the local economy strong is to stop supporting elite businesses and start supporting the local community.
