Indiana
The number of active farms in Indiana has declined by about 5,000 since 2007 but there are still over 55,000 active farms and 14.8 million acres in farmland in operation. Indiana is very flat, a perfect landscape for mono-crops and grain production, which it capitalizes upon, utilizing around 86% of the available farmland for this purpose.
Livestock inventory in the state is below average compared to most, with only 810,000 head of cattle grazing a mere 500,000 acres of permanent pasture and rangeland. Most of the livestock comes in the form of hogs, turkeys, and chickens, with Indiana being the third largest chicken producer in the country with over 45.6 million chickens. Turkeys aren't far behind, with over 20.5 million birds reported in 2021.
Producing that amount of poultry typically comes at the detriment of quality and the health of the animals. Regenerative, responsible farms never sacrifice quality of life of the animals and work diligently to ensure that the animals are able to live and feed in a a natural environment, just as they would in nature. The result is clean, happy, healthy animals and quality nutrition you can trust. Support local farms and take a stand against industrialized farming practices and the mega-corporations of agriculture.
