Kansas
Kansas is known for farming. Its flat landscape, geographic location, and ideal climate make it prime real estate for agriculture. There are currently 58,600 active farms in the state, spanning across 45.7 million acres. As of 2022, Kansas was the 3rd largest beef producer in the nation and currently accommodates over 6.5 million head of cattle, utilizing nearly 15 million acres for permanent pasture and rangeland, a fantastic ratio for natural grazing and regenerative farming.
While being a leading beef producer is a major feat, big industry makes for tough competition. Major producers often set market values and create margins that can be razor thin, driving family farmers out of business. Supporting local, family owned farms is becoming more important than ever and may be the only way to regain the power of the people and become food and nutritionally independent.
