Maine

Maine's agricultural landscape is pale in comparison to many of the states in the nation, but there are still around 7,600 farms operating on over 1.3 million acres in the state. Maine primarily focuses on cattle and hogs for livestock and accommodated around 74,000 cows and 4,700 hogs in 2021.

For produce, the state focuses on growing potatoes, blueberries, and hay, utilizing only 77,000 acres for these purposes. Mono-crops are scarce, primarily due to climate, but the state still produces oats, barley, and corn on about 67,000 acres.

Due to the scarce nature of the farming and livestock industry in Maine, locally sourcing nutrition may be slightly more challenging. However, supporting local, family owned farms is still extremely important for nutritional independence, the local economy, and for breaking free from inflated markets. This is how we make a difference.
