Mississippi
Mississippi is home to 34,300 farms sprawling across 10.4 million acres. The state produced 707 million chickens in 2021 alone and raises around 910,000 cattle grazing 1.6 million acres of permanent pasture and rangeland.
Corn and soybeans account for $2.1 billion of the states agricultural revenue, with nearly 3 million acres allocated towards mono-crops. The state also rakes in over $103 million annually producing sweet potatoes.
Even though many farms in the state are family owned and multi-generational, the total number of farms has decreased by 7,659 farms since 2007. Keeping these multi-generational family-owned farms in business is critical for maintaining responsible, regenerative farming practices, trustworthy food sourcing, and maintaining a strong and independent local economy.
