New Hampshire
Even though New Hampshire doesn't have the luxury of extensive agricultural real estate, the state still supports 4,100 farms across 430,000 acres. Around 108,000 acres of that are allocated towards crops, primarily hay, haylage, alfalfa, and roughly 13,000 acres of corn, with close to 29,000 acres dedicated towards permanent pasture and rangeland. The pasture accommodates around 31,000 cattle annually, with 10,500 being dairy cattle and around 4,000 being for beef production.
Most farms in New Hampshire are small, averaging between 30-40 acres, with some of the larger farms ranging from 150-300 acres. Supporting these smaller, locally owned farms helps to keep them in the in the game of agriculture, providing them with an edge against larger corporate farms and the increasingly competitive market.
