Oklahoma's farmland has decreased by nearly 9,400 farms and close to million acres over the last 15 years, however the state still has 77,200 active farms, over 34.4 million active agricultural acres, and was ranked as the #5 cattle producer in the United States in 2022 with over 5.2 million head of cattle. To accommodate the large number of livestock, Oklahoma has allocated 19.2 million acres to permanent pasture and rangeland, which also accommodates goats, sheep, and hogs. The state is also a major dairy producer, generating 692 million pounds of milk in 2021, earning the state $139.1 million in agricultural revenue. Additionally, Oklahoma is a major poultry producer, producing over 197 million chickens annually.

Oklahoma utilizes part of the remaining 15.2 million acres for livestock feed such as hay, haylage, and alfalfa, generating an additional $1+ billion annually during high-yield years.

With the reduction in farms and the significant loss of farmland in recent years, trends indicate a steady decrease of farmland in Oklahoma year after year. As farmland disappears it is generally either added to the monopoly of ultra-rich industrial agricultural corporations, or it is gobbled up by developers and lost forever. Supporting local, community, family-owned regenerative farms preserves the rich, natural landscape, keeps people and the communities independent of the industrial food complex, and helps to maintain a thriving local economy. Oklahoma is an integral part of the agricultural community and our support ensures that this continues for generations to come.
