Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania was ranked as the #4 chicken producer in the United States in 2021, producing 37.25 million chickens. The state raises a broad range of livestock, from over 1.34 million cattle, 38,000 goats, 96,000 sheep, over 1.3 million hogs, and 6.9 million turkeys. This Pennsylvania's diverse agricultural landscape includes 52,700 farms operating across 7.3 million acres. The state is also a major producer in livestock feed such as hay, haylage, and alfalfa, all very rich in nutrients and critical for livestock sustainment throughout dry and winter months.

Since 2007, Pennsylvania has steadily lost over 11,000 farms and over 5 million acres of farmland. In many cases, once this land is lost, it is lost forever. Smaller, family-owned, sustainable farms do a tremendous job at restoring the environment and nature preservation, as well as providing critical input to the local economy and local communities. When this land is converted to developments or moved under the umbrella of industrial farming, the land suffers significant detriment and money is often pulled away from, and out of local economies and communities. As we move more towards a farm to table, direct sourcing approach to nutrition, we will empower the people and instill a sense of independence that is critical for us to thrive.
