Rhode Island
As a small, northeastern state, Rhode Island still knows a thing or two about farming. There are currently 1,100 active farms operating across 60,000 acres and the state even has around 6,000 acres of permanent pasture and rangeland to accommodate the 3,600 cattle that the state produces annually. Rhode Island's primary livestock focus is beef cattle, milk cows, and hogs, but they also produce around 24,000 tons of highly nutritious hay, haylage, and alfalfa each year.
1,100 farms doesn't seem like much, but considering the landmass the state actually has a booming agricultural landscape that has seen some rebound and growth over the last 5 years. Supporting locally owned, regenerative farms will help to ensure an even brighter future for this state and many others.
